Golf & wellness

Fairways & Sea

Villas above the fairways and close to the sea: Monte Argentario in Tuscany, LAUCALA in Fiji and Amanera on the Dominican north coast, each pairing golf with a serious spa.

The idea

Fairways & Sea

Some clients plan a week around a tee sheet; others want the course outside the window and the spa down the path. This collection holds the stays we reach for when golf and wellness should share one address: a private house above the fairways, the sea in view, and nothing to drive to.

It suits golfers travelling with partners or children who do not play, wellness weeks that want a round in the morning and a treatment in the afternoon, and families or friends who would rather share a house than a hotel corridor. Each of the three puts the course and the spa within reach of the villa, then adds the sea.

Argentario Golf Villas, Tuscany. On Monte Argentario, the Argentario Golf Villas sit on the hillside above the Argentario Golf Club, Italy’s only PGA National course: eighteen holes and par 71 through olive groves and Mediterranean scrub, with two holes above the sea and the lagoon. The estate is car-free, each villa has a golf cart at the door, and the 2,700 m² Espace Wellness Center is open to villa guests every day. Cottages sleep six or eight and the Hills Lodge twelve, with terraces over the course, the Gulf of Talamone or the Orbetello lagoon. See our Monte Argentario guide.

LAUCALA Island, Fiji. LAUCALA Island sets its eighteen-hole, par-72 championship course by David McLay Kidd among volcanic terrain, coconut plantations and the South Pacific, played without set tee times. Each of the twenty-four pool villas has its own golf cart, and the spa, with a fitness centre and personal training on request, is on the same private island. See our LAUCALA Island guide for the island itself.

Amanera, Dominican Republic. On the north coast, Amanera holds cliff and beach pavilions above the Atlantic at Playa Grande, on a wilder stretch of cliff and jungle, where days move between Aman Spa, the pool, the beach and golf; course calendars are confirmed with the house for your dates. Puerto Plata is usually the closer airport. See our Dominican Republic guide.

The calendars complement one another. The Argentario plays all year, with spring and autumn the gentlest months for golf and the beach club open from June to September. Fiji’s drier, trade-wind season runs from May to October. On the Dominican north coast the dry winter months are the peak and the shoulder months quieter, while the Atlantic hurricane season, June to November, calls for flexible holds.

Two of these houses also belong to other collections: LAUCALA among the Private Islands, and the Argentario in the olive country of Mediterranean Hills.
