Austria

Austria, for Exclusive Villa Collection, is mountain light in two registers: an alpine lake in summer, and the deep snow of the Arlberg in winter. We open the country through Lake Grundlsee in the Salzkammergut, where Villa Anna, a carefully restored 1930s summer residence, is reserved exclusively as a whole, and through St. Anton am Arlberg, the village where Alpine skiing was born.

In St. Anton the Raffl family keeps two houses a short walk apart: Raffl’s St. Antoner Hof, the five-star original with fireplace suites and a private chalet, and Raffl’s Tyrolhotel, with its Royal Suite and an outdoor pool reached by tunnel.

We write Austria for travelers who want a lakeside week with a villa concierge, or a ski week on the Arlberg with a private guide and a good table, arranged by inquiry, not from a brochure desk.

In winter, St. Anton belongs to our Alpine Escapes collection. In summer, Lake Grundlsee and Villa Anna belong to Houses for Generations.

Across the border in Switzerland, Hotel Villa Honegg stands alone on the Bürgenstock above Lake Lucerne, an Art Nouveau villa of 1905 with an outdoor infinity pool that is warm in every season.

Why visit

A reason to make the journey.

  • A true lakeside private house Villa Anna on Lake Grundlsee is reserved exclusively as a whole: five en-suite bedrooms, salons, and a terrace toward the Totes Gebirge.
  • Salzkammergut without the crowd script Bad Aussee minutes away, Hallstatt within an easy drive, Salzburg a short hop, sequenced privately rather than as a coach-tour timetable.
  • The Arlberg in winter St. Anton am Arlberg, where Alpine skiing was born, with two Raffl family houses on the main street and Ski Arlberg at the door.

When and how

Light, season, and the arrival

Each season keeps its own calendar. We plan the transfer around it.

Best time to visit

When the light is right

Lake Grundlsee rewards late spring through early autumn for terrace living and lake light; alpine winters bring a quieter lakeside register. St. Anton am Arlberg is at its best from December to April, with January to March the heart of the ski season.

Seasonality

When to go

At Lake Grundlsee, summer and shoulder months favor terrace dining and lake access; festive and holiday weeks are best reserved early, and a minimum length of stay applies. In St. Anton am Arlberg the season runs from December to April, and Christmas, New Year and February fill first.

Airport / logistics

Arriving without hurry

Salzburg Airport is approximately 1 hour 20 minutes by car from Lake Grundlsee; Munich Airport and Vienna approximately three hours. St. Anton am Arlberg is about an hour and a quarter by car from Innsbruck Airport, with Zurich also convenient, and has its own station on the Arlberg line.

Luxury experiences

Hours we would keep

  • Lake & mountain days Shore steps from the villa, terrace outlooks to the Totes Gebirge, and private grounds for an unhurried alpine-lake week.
  • Concierge-led stay A personal villa concierge looks after the house; breakfast, flowers, and a curated drinks selection follow your wishes.
  • Celebrations at house scale Two dining rooms for intimate tables of 4 to 6 or gatherings up to 14.
