Dolomites

The Dolomites are pale rock and alpine pasture, a mountain week that can be ski-season precise or summer-trail generous. Exclusive Villa Collection plans the Dolomites around San Cassiano and the Badia valley: a village house with serious spa culture, UNESCO peaks at the door, and Aman Rosa Alpina as the stay’s center of gravity.

We hold suites early around peak ski and summer windows, and we pair naturally with Aman Le Mélézin when Europe Alps should hold two registers, or with Venice when Italy should hold mountain and canal.

Two hours west across South Tyrol, above Merano, San Luis Retreat Hotel & Lodges keeps chalets and tree houses around a private mountain lake on the Avelengo plateau, a quieter forest week that pairs well with Alta Badia. See our South Tyrol guide.

For the canal half of that pairing, see our Venice guide, and our Italy guide for the country as a whole.

Why visit

A reason to make the journey.

  • Pale rock, serious hospitality The Dolomites reward a house that understands both the mountain and the table. We secure the room in the village first.
  • Ski circuit or summer trail: your clock Sella Ronda winters and rifugio summers are different experiences. Your advisor shapes the week around the season you actually want.
  • Recovery built into the altitude Spa and firelit evenings are not afterthoughts. They are why the mountain week feels finished.

When and how

Light, season, and the arrival

Each season keeps its own calendar. We plan the transfer around it.

Best time to visit

When the light is right

December through March is classic ski season: reliable snow on the Sella Ronda circuit and village evenings that earn the cold. July through September open the high trails and rifugio lunches: long light, fewer lifts, different packing. Shoulder months (April to June, October to November) can be quietly beautiful, as lifts and trails open and close. Christmas and mid-February fill first.

Seasonality

When to go

Holiday ski weeks and August trail peaks tighten suites and guides. Avalanche and weather closures are real. Your advisor builds flexible day plans, not rigid checklists. Summer thunderstorms favor early starts.

Airport / logistics

Arriving without hurry

Common gateways are Innsbruck (INN), Venice (VCE), Verona (VRN), or Bolzano with private transfer into Val Badia. Drive times vary with alpine weather and which pass is open. Your advisor plans the journey door to door. Ski passes, guides, and spa hours are arranged with the stay.

Luxury experiences

Hours we would keep

  • Guided ski or trail days Local guides held through your advisor: slopes and paths matched to the group, not a generic hotel board.
  • Rifugio and village tables Mountain lunches and San Cassiano dinners arranged before hunger becomes a negotiation.
  • Spa after the pass Altitude days need a counterweight. Treatments and quiet hours planned into the days on purpose.
