Some of Indonesia’s finest places have no hotel at all. The islands of the Lesser Sundas, the waters of Komodo National Park and the reefs further east are best reached by sea, and a week aboard a private yacht lets the archipelago change around you each morning.
Our yacht here is Amandira, Aman’s traditional phinisi, built of timber by Indonesian shipwrights and fitted with a small number of cabins, wide teak decks and a crew that runs the voyage like a house. Days move between anchorages: a swim before breakfast, a dive or snorkel on a reef few boats reach, a walk on an empty beach, and dinner on deck as the light goes.
Voyages suit couples, families and groups of friends who would rather have the whole boat than share a resort, and divers who want to wake up on the site. Land stays bookend the sailing well: Ubud for culture, Nusa Dua for villa days, or Moyo Island for a camp ashore.
Amandira also appears in our Sportfishing & Adventure collection, and our Indonesia guide covers the islands on land.
