Porto Heli

Porto Heli lies at the tip of the Argolid in the eastern Peloponnese, a sheltered harbour of pine and olive hills facing the islands of Spetses and Hydra. It is the Greece of long lunches, boats and ancient sites, without the crowds of the Cyclades.

Our stay here is Amanzoe, on a hilltop above the Argolic Gulf. Stone pavilions with their own pools stand among olive trees, the central buildings recall a classical temple, and a beach club on the coast keeps the sea close. Villas give larger families their own house within the estate.

Porto Heli suits couples and families who want calm water and good food, and travelers who like a day of history between days at sea. It is part of our Mediterranean Hills collection, alongside Bodrum, Capri and Hvar. Families often take a villa for the summer weeks, with the beach club and the boats for the children and the ancient sites for everyone.

Why visit

A reason to make the journey.

  • Hilltop privacy Pavilions with their own pools among olive groves, high above the gulf.
  • Islands by boat Spetses and Hydra are a short crossing away, both largely free of cars.
  • Classical Greece close by Epidaurus, Nafplio and Mycenae within a comfortable day.

When and how

Light, season, and the arrival

Each season keeps its own calendar. We plan the transfer around it.

Best time to visit

When the light is right

May, June and September are the finest months: warm sea, clear light and fewer people. July and August are hot and lively, with the summer festival in the ancient theatre at Epidaurus.

Seasonality

When to go

July and August book first, and villas for families go earliest. The resort keeps a seasonal calendar, so dates are confirmed early. In April and October the hills are green and quiet, good for walking and the archaeological sites.

Airport / logistics

Arriving without hurry

Athens International Airport (ATH) is the gateway. By road, Porto Heli takes about two and a half to three hours. A helicopter makes the journey in well under an hour, and private yachts can berth in the harbour. In summer, a sea taxi from the coast reaches Spetses in minutes.

Luxury experiences

Hours we would keep

  • Epidaurus The ancient theatre and sanctuary at Epidaurus, with a summer performance when the festival is on.
  • Spetses and Hydra A day on the water to the islands, lunch by the harbour and a swim on the way back.
  • Nafplio The first capital of modern Greece, with its Venetian fortress and lanes above the sea.

Traveler questions

Before your Porto Heli week

  • How far is Amanzoe from Athens? About two and a half to three hours by road from Athens International Airport, or well under an hour by helicopter.
  • Can we visit Spetses and Hydra? Yes. Spetses is a few minutes by sea taxi from the nearby coast, and Hydra a longer boat ride, both easy days out.
  • When does the season start? Amanzoe keeps a seasonal calendar, usually from spring to autumn, so dates are confirmed early.
