Monte Argentario was once an island. Now the Orbetello lagoon, where flamingos wade, lies between the promontory and the Maremma mainland, and the Argentario keeps the air of somewhere apart: two harbour towns, Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, clear water around a coast of coves and pinewoods, and beaches from the sandy Giannella strip to the coves of the promontory.
In a green valley between the two harbours, on a 77-hectare estate of cork oak and centuries-old olive trees, Argentario Golf Villas sit on the hillside above the fairways of Italy’s only PGA National golf course. We hold the Argentario for travelers who want Tuscany with the sea in it: mornings on the course or on the water, afternoons among Maremma vineyards, evenings above the lagoon.
Inland, the vineyards of Chianti and the city of Florence are each around two hours by road, an easy way to give a Tuscan week both the coast and the hills.
