Winter 2026/27: Luxury Ski Chalets and Alpine Houses
Chalet-scale suites, freestanding Homes, and alpine residences in Courchevel 1850, San Cassiano, and Jackson Hole, and how to plan a ski week this winter.
The most coveted ski chalet this winter may not be a chalet at all. It is a house with a hotel’s discipline: a suite that opens onto snow, a spa that makes the third powder morning possible, a boot room that works, and a fire waiting when the light goes flat. For winter 2026/27, four alpine addresses answer that wish in very different ways: two in the Alps and two in Jackson Hole.
The three Aman houses among them form our Alpine Escapes collection, which we keep deliberately short; Caldera House joins them at the foot of the Tetons. Here is how each one lives, and how to plan the week.
Aman Le Mélézin, Courchevel 1850
Aman Le Mélézin is Aman’s French Alps ski hotel, set in Courchevel 1850 with piste-side convenience above the Trois Vallées. Its Belle Époque character is the counterpoint to 1850’s polish: suites oriented to snow and village light, a salon for the hour after skiing, and dining timed to the mountain rather than to nightlife.

This is Courchevel for households who want Aman quiet inside the resort’s machinery. Ski days run efficiently from the door, with guides and ski service arranged for your dates; Aman Spa handles altitude recovery, and flat-light afternoons are given to the spa and the suite rather than forced vertical. Families benefit from connecting suites and boot-room practicalities, arranged before arrival.
Evenings stay in the house when you wish them to: Belle Époque dining quiet, in-suite dining when available, and a fireside salon while Courchevel’s energy remains outside. It is also a strong choice for couples who ski at different speeds and want a calm suite to return to.
Most guests arrive through Geneva, Lyon, or Chambéry with a private transfer, and winter road timing matters; helicopters are an option when the weather allows. The core ski window runs December through April, and Christmas, New Year, and the February school holidays are the most sought-after weeks.
Aman Rosa Alpina, San Cassiano, Dolomites
In the Alta Badia village of San Cassiano, in northern Italy, Aman Rosa Alpina is a village Aman beneath the pale rock of the UNESCO-listed Dolomites. It is a mountain house with Italian-Ladin flavour: alpine rooms and suites, dining in alpine and refined Italian registers, and a spa culture serious enough to be a reason in itself to choose it.

December through March is the classic ski season, with reliable snow on the Sella Ronda circuit and village evenings that earn the cold. Local guides are arranged for slopes that suit the group, mountain lunches and San Cassiano dinners are planned ahead, and spa hours are written into the week as the counterweight to altitude. Some rooms favour easy spa access and others quieter sleep, so your advisor asks how you like to recover before choosing.
Gateways include Innsbruck, Venice, Verona, and Bolzano, with a private transfer into Val Badia; your advisor recommends the sensible airport for the season. Christmas and mid-February are the tightest weeks. Rosa Alpina also pairs naturally with Aman Le Mélézin when a winter should hold both the Dolomites and the Trois Vallées.
The house rewards travellers who want alpine culture, Ladin texture and serious recovery, rather than vertical metres on a scorecard, and it keeps its character beyond winter: July through September open the high trails and rifugio lunches, should the family wish to return in summer.
Amangani, Jackson Hole
Amangani (the name means “peaceful home”) is Aman’s first North American resort, set on the crest of East Gros Ventre Butte at roughly 7,000 feet above Jackson Hole, the Grand Tetons, and the Snake River Valley. Redwood panelling and log fires keep the American West present without costume.

For a chalet-scale stay, Amangani’s freestanding Homes give the privacy of a separate house; its forty suites each open to a deck or balcony with mountain or valley views. In winter, a complimentary shuttle runs to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, about twenty minutes away, where Amangani’s Ski Lounge waits below the Bridger Gondola. Back on the butte, the spa and the heated outdoor pool face the range.
Jackson Hole Airport is about twenty minutes from the resort. Ski season typically runs from late November to early April, and Christmas, New Year, and Presidents’ Week are the first to be reserved for both suites and Homes.
Winter in the valley is more than the pistes. Grand Teton National Park is minutes away, and wildlife tours, snowshoeing, and nordic days are arranged when conditions and guides allow; evenings return to dining with valley light, or to in-Home dining on request.
Caldera House, Teton Village
Down in the valley, Caldera House sits at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, the mountain as the front door. Club suites and alpine residences, named Pacana, Taupo, Yellowstone, Aira, Socorro, and Newberry among them, are built for ski days that begin in the locker and end at the fire pit.

This is the closest of the four to a true ski chalet. Multi-bedroom residences host multi-generational groups without forcing anyone into a hotel template, while couples take the calm of a club suite with the same access. Ski-locker and mudroom culture is real, the members’ lounge absorbs the hour between last chair and supper, and Vallés holds the evening. Days can be tram laps or a sleigh ride, snowshoeing, or simply the terrace as weather crosses the Tetons.
When the snow melts, summer and early autumn trade ski noise for trailheads, wildlife, and Yellowstone day trips from a base that still feels like a house.
Caldera House and Amangani pair beautifully in a single Jackson Hole week: butte quiet above town, then village ski-in energy at the tram.
Choosing your mountain
- For polished Trois Vallées skiing: Aman Le Mélézin, with piste-side convenience in Courchevel 1850.
- For village texture and spa: Aman Rosa Alpina, in San Cassiano beneath the Dolomites.
- For a house of your own above the valley: an Amangani Home on East Gros Ventre Butte.
- For ski-in residence living with the whole family: a multi-bedroom alpine residence at Caldera House.
When to go and how to plan a ski week
- Season. Courchevel’s core window runs December through April; the Dolomites ski season, December through March; Jackson Hole, roughly late November to early April. Opening and closing dates are confirmed each year with the house.
- Holiday weeks. Christmas, New Year, and February school holidays in the Alps, and Presidents’ Week in Jackson Hole, are the first to be reserved. Shoulder ski weeks can be exceptional for space and light.
- Transfers. Winter road timing into Courchevel and Val Badia is material; your advisor arranges the car, or a helicopter to Courchevel when weather allows. Jackson Hole Airport is about twenty minutes from Amangani.
- Recovery. Spa hours are finite when the resorts are full. Book treatments alongside powder mornings so the week does not stack exhaustion.
- Two mountains, one winter. Rosa Alpina with Le Mélézin, or Amangani with Caldera House, gives one season two tempos.
