The Experience

How the days feel

Monte Argentario rises from the sea at the southern edge of Tuscany, a promontory of rocky coves, beaches and pinewoods that was once an island, joined now to the Maremma across the Orbetello lagoon. In a green valley between its two harbour towns, Porto Ercole and Porto Santo Stefano, Argentario Golf & Wellness Resort keeps 77 hectares of cork oak and centuries-old olive trees where fallow deer still roam. There are no cars on the estate, only electric carts, and on the hillside above the fairways sit the Argentario Golf Villas, reached along private cart paths.

The villas reimagine the Tuscan country house in a contemporary key, with interiors by designer Andrea Fogli: oak floors, furnished teak terraces, outdoor hot tubs and long views over the golf course and the Argentario Polo Club to the lagoon. A day might begin with breakfast at the resort or cooked by a private chef on your terrace, turn to a round on the PGA National course, a skippered boat around the promontory or an afternoon at the beach club on the Giannella shore, and end at Dama Dama as the valley goes dark.

Your advisor matches the villa to the party, from a three-bedroom cottage for six to the six-bedroom Hills Lodge for twelve, and settles the dates directly with the resort. Rome Fiumicino is about an hour and a half away by road, which makes the Argentario a natural coda to a stay in Rome.

A king master suite with en-suite bath and closet, two further king bedrooms sharing a bathroom, and two terraces (130 m²) with an outdoor hot tub over the golf course, the polo club and the Gulf of Talamone. Dining

The table

Two restaurants and two bars cook farm to table, from the resort’s organic kitchen garden and the farms of the Maremma, under executive chef Emiliano Lombardelli, who was born on the Argentario.

Dama Dama. The fine-dining room, named for the fallow deer that roam the estate and featured in Gambero Rosso’s 2026 guide: inventive land and sea dishes, a tasting menu, a cellar rich in Tuscan, biodynamic and natural wines, and a panoramic terrace from spring to autumn.

Club House. Argentario cooking with a view over the course to the sea: tortelli al ragù, panzanella, bistecca alla fiorentina. Its bar serves from morning to evening, and aperitivo is at the Dragonfly Bar, with its Marcel Wanders boar tables, or on the panoramic terraces at sunset, looking toward the Gulf of Talamone.

In the villa. Breakfast is served at the resort, or a private chef and waiter can cook and serve breakfast, lunch and dinner on your own terrace.

Spa & Wellness

Quiet hours

The Espace Wellness Center gives 2,700 m² to light woods and floor-to-ceiling glass looking into the greenery, and villa guests use it every day of their stay.

Water and heat. A heated saline pool that runs from indoors to outdoors and stays open all year, a Turkish bath, and in late spring and summer two outdoor pools, one for children, above the ninth hole and the polo fields.

Treatments. Signature rituals with local lavender and organic Maremma olive oil; the Espace Suite, a private spa with an aromatic Turkish bath under a starred sky, a hammam bed and a floating water bed; and the MediSpa’s Wellbeing Method, led by nutritionist Luca Naitana. Treatments can also come to the villa.

Movement. A Technogym gym with personal trainers, two tennis and two padel courts, a five-a-side pitch and two jogging trails through olive and oak; yoga can be arranged in the gardens or on the Argentario’s beaches.

Experiences

Days on the Argentario

The concierge shapes the days around three things the Argentario does beautifully: golf, the sea and the Maremma.

Golf. The Argentario Golf Club is Italy’s only PGA National course: 18 holes, 6,295 metres, par 71, opened in 2006 through olive groves and Mediterranean scrub, with two holes above the sea and the lagoon. A mild microclimate keeps it in play all year, and the Academy teaches adults and children alike.

The coast. A partner beach club on the sandy Giannella shore, ten minutes away; skippered boats, from fast day boats to yachts, for the promontory’s hidden coves; ferries to Giglio and Giannutri from Porto Santo Stefano; diving, sailing lessons and catch-and-release fishing on the lagoon.

The Maremma. Rides through olive groves and scrub toward the Uccellina park, Pirelli e-bikes, tastings with a sommelier or at partner wineries, cooking classes with the chef, the hot springs of Saturnia, and days in Porto Ercole, Orbetello and Capalbio, or as far as Siena and Rome.

Who it is best for

Who feels at home here

Families and friends who want a house of their own with a five-star resort around it: the Hills Lodge sleeps twelve, the cottages six or eight.

Golfers. Villas above the fairways of a PGA National course, with a golf cart at the door.

Families. An indoor play area, a playground, a children’s pool in season and, in high season, a Mini Club; babysitting, children’s golf lessons and sailing courses can be arranged.

Wellness weeks. Daily time at the spa, the Wellbeing Method and treatments in the villa.

Dogs. Four-legged guests are welcome, with a pet kit on request and an estate made for long walks.

Getting there

The arrival is part of the stay

The estate lies just off the Aurelia coast road at Località Le Piane, 4 km from Porto Ercole and Marina di Cala Galera, 2.5 km from Orbetello and 8 km from Porto Santo Stefano.

By air. Rome Fiumicino is 140 km away, about an hour and a half by road; Rome Ciampino is 165 km (two hours), Pisa 200 km and Florence 205 km (two and a quarter to two and a half hours). The nearest railway station is Orbetello, for Monte Argentario.

By helicopter. The resort has its own heliport, and helicopter transfers can be arranged.

Good to know. Taxis are few and ride-sharing does not operate here, so your advisor arranges a private transfer or a car. On the estate you move by electric cart, bike or on foot, and arrival comes with a welcome of fruit and champagne.

Seasonality

When the house is open

A mild climate keeps the Argentario in season all year; what changes is the shape of the days.

Summer. The beach club and its shuttle run from June to September, the outdoor pools open from late spring, and Dama Dama dines on its terrace from spring to autumn. Porto Ercole lights the sea with fireworks for Sant’Erasmo on 2 June, and Porto Santo Stefano rows its Palio Marinaro on 15 August.

Spring and autumn. Quieter harbours and mild days for golf, riding and cycling. Easter brings the Pasquavela regatta off Porto Santo Stefano, and late October the Gustatus food and wine festival in Orbetello.

Winter. Golf is played year-round, and the heated indoor pool and the villas’ hot tubs come into their own. Your advisor confirms villa dates when you inquire.
