St. Anton am Arlberg is where skiing as we know it began. Hannes Schneider opened his ski school here in 1921, and the Arlberg technique travelled from this valley to the rest of the world. The village still lives for the snow: the slopes rise straight from the houses, and the Ski Arlberg area beyond them runs to some 350 kilometres of marked pistes and around 200 kilometres of deep-snow routes, across St. Christoph, Stuben, Lech and Zürs.
Raffl’s St. Antoner Hof has stood on the main street since 1969, and the Raffl family has made it something entirely its own. Antiques share rooms with bold colour, tiled stoves with contemporary art, and almost every room has an open fire. The house is warm, witty and a little theatrical, with a service style that treats unusual requests as a pleasure rather than a problem.
Evenings have a rhythm worth planning around: a drink by the fire in the hotel bar, a bottle chosen from the wine cellar, then Raffl’s Eat Art, where a menu of small plates is cooked and shared around an open fire in the centre of the room. After the mountain, a compact spa with an indoor pool, whirlpool, Finnish sauna and Turkish steam bath restores the legs for the next day.
Behind the hotel, Raffl’s Chalet in the old Landhaus gives a family or a group of friends a house of their own, with a garden sauna hut, an open-air whirlpool and a private chef on request, and the hotel’s service a few steps away. Your Exclusive Villa Collection advisor arranges the stay directly with the family, from a fireplace double to the two-storey Grand Suite Maisonette or the chalet, and shapes ski guiding, dinners and arrival around the way you travel.
