The Experience

How the days feel

Secret Bay occupies a clifftop promontory on the coast of Dominica, where lush rainforest meets the azure Caribbean Sea. Across more than forty acres there are two secluded beaches, a sea cave, the Cario River winding through the forest and two distinct microclimates, with twenty-seven villas set among the trees rather than in rows along the shore. This is the Caribbean’s Nature Island, and here it is never more than a step away.

The villas are freestanding and residential in scale, built from sustainably sourced tropical hardwoods to LEED standards, each with indoor and outdoor living spaces, a private plunge pool, a gourmet kitchen, outdoor showers and daybeds. A dedicated villa host looks after every stay: breakfast cooked in the villa, packed lunches for a day out, a picnic on Secret Beach, candles lit and dinner served at home, or a hot bath drawn with eucalyptus oil at the end of the day.

The days follow the island. A traditional fishing boat leaves from Tibay Beach for the Indian River, rowed beneath the Bwa Mang trees; a 40-foot sailboat heads out as the sun goes down; a private speedboat finds the brightest snorkelling in the shallows. On land there are waterfall hikes, canyoning through gorges, rivers and pools hidden deep in the rainforest, and a guided walk with one of Dominica’s leading bird experts. Or the day is simply kayaks, paddleboards and the golden sand of Secret Beach, reached only by sea.

Secret Bay is certified by Green Globe, a member of Relais & Châteaux, and holds Two MICHELIN Keys, awarded in 2025 and again in 2026. What guests take home is quieter than any of that: the food they ate, the people they met and a real connection with the island.

Dining

The island at the table

Every meal at Secret Bay is drawn from close at hand: herbs, vegetables and spices from the Botanica Organic Garden on the property, and fish and produce from nearby fishers and farmers’ markets.

Zing Zing. An intimate open-air restaurant of twenty seats under a canopy-style roof, with sweeping views of the Caribbean Sea. There is no menu to read: a six-course Discovery Menu is shaped each evening by the island’s freshest ingredients and by conversation between chef and guest.

Botanica. An outdoor chef’s table in the organic garden beside the Cario River, for plant-based dishes and fresh seafood such as lionfish. Guests can forage along the Botanica Nature Walk before they sit down.

Bwa Denn. Food, art and community under one roof: an all-day island-to-table restaurant with a tapas terrace, a full bar, a microbrewery for small-batch kombucha, a wine cellar and a rooftop lounge over the sea, around a gallery of more than a hundred works by contemporary Caribbean and Latin American artists.

Wellbeing

Rituals in the treetops

Wellbeing at Secret Bay is rooted in the forest and the river, and in treatments that use local ingredients chosen for natural healing.

Gommier Spa. A treetop spa, open to the forest on three sides, with solo and couples treatments.

Bwa Mang Wellness Pavilion. The spa’s riverside companion, for intimate yoga and meditation classes; the concierge can also arrange riverside yoga for you alone.

Movement. An open-air fitness and play space on the ground floor of Bwa Denn, with air bikes, a rower, a treadmill, strength racks, free weights, Pilates balls and a ping-pong table, and the Gwiyavye’ lap pool among the guava trees.

In nature. Forest bathing, the Botanica Nature Walk along the Cario River, and the sulphur spas of Dominica’s volcanic interior.

Beaches & Water

Two secluded beaches

The promontory keeps two secluded beaches of its own, a sea cave and clear Caribbean water at its feet.

Secret Beach. A golden cove beneath the cliffs, reached only by sea, where your villa host can lay a picnic.

Tibay Beach. The resort’s other shore, where traditional fishing boats set out for the Indian River.

Zamann Watersports Hut. The beachfront hut for kayaks, paddleboards and snorkelling equipment, and the meeting point for time on the water.

Gwiyavye’ Lap Pool & Bar. An in-nature infinity lap pool with endless ocean views from a grove of guava trees, with a full-service bar and casual beachfront dining.

On the water. Snorkelling tours by private speedboat, night snorkelling, the sea cave, kayak fishing, a lionfish hunt, scuba diving off an island counted among the world’s top ten dive destinations, a sunset sail and swimming with the whales.

Romance & Family

For two, or for everyone

  • Family
  • Two travelers

Secret Bay is made for honeymooners, empty nesters, adventurous couples and active families: couples in search of romance, and families looking to disconnect from the everyday.

Romance. Honeymoon Villas made for romancing the island, dinner on the Vetiver Sunset Deck, a private table on the decks of Gwiyavye’ Heights, and weddings and vow renewals set to Dominica’s sunsets.

Families. Friends & Family Villas and Multi-Villa Estates keep everyone close. The Kids Concierge arranges art classes, snorkelling, Creole lessons, yoga, sustainability education, cooking with the executive chef and treasure hunts, with most activities suited to children over three.

Culture. Art classes and commissioned pieces, private concerts, the Saturday market in Portsmouth and a visit to the Kalinago Territory.

Arrival

Reaching the Nature Island

Dominica is off the beaten path, and that is much of its appeal; reaching it is simpler than it once was.

To Dominica. Non-stop flights from Miami on American Airlines and from Newark on United arrive at Douglas Charles Airport (DOM). Regional connections run through Barbados, St Maarten, Puerto Rico, Antigua and Guadeloupe.

From Europe. Travellers from the UK, France, Germany and the Netherlands connect in Barbados (BGI), Antigua (ANU) or St Maarten (SXM) with British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Air France, KLM or other major European carriers.

On arrival. A private transfer meets you at the airport. At Mouben Welcome House the concierge takes over, with electric vehicles for getting around the property and a six-person funicular that climbs 400 linear feet into the coastal jungle, linking three areas of the resort in minutes.

Seasonality

The Nature Island, in every light

Dominica’s character comes from its forest and its water: 365 rivers, rainforest, waterfalls, hot springs and volcanic lakes, with much of the island protected as national parks. On Secret Bay’s promontory alone, two distinct microclimates meet.

For every interest. Waterfall hikes and canyoning in the rainforest, the Boiling Lake and Freshwater Lake in the interior, Champagne Reef and Scotts Head along the coast, and sunset sails from the resort’s own shore.

Choosing dates. The right weeks depend on what matters most to you: time in the villa and on the beaches, the trails and waterfalls, diving, or time in the water with the whales. Your advisor confirms timing with Secret Bay when you inquire.
