The Experience

How the days feel

Ninh Van Bay feels like an island and is not one. It lies on the Heo Peninsula in Khanh Hoa province, just across the water from Nha Trang, a crescent of white sand closed in by granite rock formations and towering green mountains, and because no road runs to it, the last of the journey is always by boat. Six Senses Ninh Van Bay sits on the bay, looking out to the open sea.

The resort is a village of sixty-two villas, each with its own pool and a full view of the sea. Some stand directly on the beach, some on the water’s edge, some between the boulders at the western end of the bay and some on the mountain slope, reached by hillside walkways. Every one has a handcrafted wooden bathtub and an outdoor shower. At the tips of the bay and high on the hill are three houses of three bedrooms apiece: the Hill Top Reserve, The Water Reserve and The Rock Retreat, the last two reached by private speedboat.

The days are shaped by the bay. A house reef stretches from the Experiences Center to the water villas, with a marked snorkeling trail; kayaks, paddleboards and Hobie Cats set out from the Experiences Center; and a trail climbs Heo Mountain past a reservoir, where the critically endangered black-shanked douc langur may be seen, before dropping to the private beach of Bai Nho. Above it all, Six Senses Spa is perched in the hills, while an in-resort solar farm, the first in Vietnam, shades the organic beds of Ninh Van Greens.

Your Exclusive Villa Collection advisor arranges the stay directly with the resort: the villa that suits how you travel, the car and boat from Cam Ranh, and the days on the water, in the hills and beyond the bay, shaped around the week you want.

Six Senses Ninh Van Bay belongs to our Southeast Asia guide, which sets the bay beside Angkor, Luang Prabang and Phuket.

Experiences

The bay, the reef and the hills

The bay is sheltered and calm, and the Experiences Center between Drinks by the Beach and the lobby sets every day on the water and in the hills.

On and in the water. Snorkeling on the house reef, kayaking along the shore past the fishermen’s nets to Bai Nho, paddleboards, Hobie Cat and catamaran sailing, and a night neon kayak, the first in Vietnam, floating over the coral reef in crystal-clear kayaks bathed in soft LED light. Waterskiing and wakeboarding are kept outside the bay, and there are no jet skis, for the quiet.

On foot. Trails to the Fairy Beach of Bai Tien and over Heo Mountain past the reservoir, where black-shanked douc langurs may be seen, to the private beach of Bai Nho and back by boat, and rock climbing at the Hangout Zone.

By boat. Island hopping in Nha Trang Bay, beginning at the Hon Mun Marine Protected Area; a sunset cruise on Nha Phu Bay in a traditional wooden boat; a sunrise cruise; fishing with the captain; and a castaway picnic on a beach of your own.

Into Vietnam. The Cham towers of Po Nagar, a sacred site dating to the seventh century, and Long Son Pagoda in Nha Trang; craft villages making conical hats, mats and rice paper; or a day in Da Lat, four hours by car and 1,475 meters above the sea.

The garden and the forest. A cooking class in the organic garden, the beehives and the Earth Lab, and an in-resort solar farm, the first in Vietnam.

Arrival

By car, then by boat

Ninh Van Bay lies on the Heo Peninsula in Khanh Hoa, across the water from Nha Trang, and is approached only by sea.

By air. The gateway is Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR), on the coast south of Nha Trang, where guests are met on arrival.

By car and boat. About sixty minutes by car to the resort’s own lounge, then a twenty-minute boat ride across to the bay.

Good to know. Because the resort is remote, all transfers to and from Cam Ranh are arranged through Six Senses Ninh Van Bay. The Water Reserve and The Rock Retreat are reached by private speedboat, and a trekking walkway also leads to The Rock Retreat. Your advisor sequences flights, car and boat as one plan.

Seasonality

A bay for most of the year

Most times of year are excellent at Ninh Van Bay.

For divers. February to October brings the best visibility underwater.

For sailing and hiking. March to November brings the most settled weather on the water and on the trails.

On rainier days. The resort runs a Nha Trang day of temples, pagodas and handicraft shops that ends in the warm mud baths of the hot springs.
